Our Mission

Czech Bird Guide was founded with a straightforward goal: to make birdwatching in the Czech Republic more accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding for everyone. Whether you are a first-time visitor hoping to identify a bird at your hotel window or an experienced birder planning a dedicated trip, we aim to provide the practical information you need to connect with Czech birdlife.

The Czech Republic is often overlooked as a birding destination in favour of more well-known countries like Spain or Hungary. Yet with over 430 documented species, world-class wetlands, ancient forests, and a network of well-maintained nature reserves, Czechia offers outstanding opportunities for birdwatchers of all levels. We want to help change that perception.

What We Offer

Our guides are written to be practical and field-ready. Each species account includes:

We organise our guides by habitat type, gardens, wetlands, forests, and open country, because this reflects how birders typically encounter species in the field. If you know what habitat you are in, you can quickly narrow down the possibilities.

Our Approach to Content

Every piece of content on Czech Bird Guide is researched using current ornithological data from recognised sources including BirdLife International, the eBird platform, and publications by the Czech Ornithological Society. We also draw on our own field experience across all major birding regions of the Czech Republic.

We update our guides regularly to reflect changes in species status, new birding sites, and current conservation developments. All bird images are sourced from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons licences, ensuring proper attribution and legal use.

Conservation

We believe that informed birdwatchers become effective advocates for bird conservation. By helping people identify and appreciate Czech birds, we hope to foster a broader culture of habitat protection and responsible nature enjoyment. We encourage all visitors to follow the ethical birding guidelines published by the Czech Ornithological Society and to report their observations through citizen science platforms like eBird.
